documenta Lounge

The first documenta was organized in Kassel in 1955. It takes place every five years. Located at the Friedrichsplatz in one of Kassel’s most beautiful buildings, constructed in a 1950s style with breathtaking views of the Karlsaue Park, the Lounge has been completely redesigned for the duration of the 100-day exhibition. It is the official venue for special receptions and events.

Black is the colour of light (Pierre Soulages)

The lounge’s interior concept is an eclectic mix of furniture in black: lounge chairs, tables and lighting from a variety of manufacturers and designers are flexibly combined to create seating islands. The black monochromism deliberately directs the attention of visitors to material, surface, texture, proportion and form, which corresponds with the aim of documenta to highlight different positions and tendencies in art. The black furniture is set against jet-black walls to create a radical interior, which contrasts with the large window front of the room featuring impressive views of the landscape.

The Wagner Lounge Chair 2 is a perfect fit. It comes with a three-dimensional Dondola integrated joint, whichdecouples the rigid connection between the seat and the lower part of the chair and puts the former into micro-movements during sitting, to relieve and strengthen the spine. The W1960 is a design classic available with a seating cushion, bringing together design with functionality.

Initiated by art professor and designer Arnold Bode, documenta is limited to 100 days, showcasing 187 artists across various city locations. The 14th edition takes place between 10 June and 17 September 2017 with artistic direction by Adam Szymczyk, former director of Kunsthalle Basel.

There can hardly be a better option of uniting design and function in such a special way.

Hours pass. But design remains. Wellbeing while sitting on the W-2020 is endless.

The W-1970, which elegantly combines wood and steel, reminds us of the history of the classic W-1960.
